Aquilegia canadensis
"hope"
Description:
This red columbine blossom is framed by pansy petals and set off by the sun and sky behind it. Columbine's botanical name, Aquilegia canadensis, refers to the Latin words for "eagle" and "of Canada." The common name, "columbine," comes from the Latin word for dove. The flower was once associated with Freya, a Norse goddess of love and fertility, and has more recently been associated with the Virgin Mary and the attributes of faith and hope. The inscription inside the card says simply "hope." Photography and design by StarAndrea.
