Sci-Fi Friday: Sanctuary (pilot)

Stargate – MacGyver + Torchwood – Innuendo = Sanctuary

Let the great debate begin…

“Sanctuary is just like Stargate!”
-Please, Will is so Daniel. He’s smart, scruffy (bad dresser, socially awkward), wears glasses, his crackpot (but true!) theories are derided by his peers, and he’s an orphan!
-Lorne’s job is still babysitting the genius.
-Sam’s man!curse is alive and well — her old lover appears, then dies (by her own hand — harsh).
-There’s a secret base that deals with weird creatures kept away from the public.
-A snake-like killer symbiote with a mind of its own lives in a child.

“No, Sanctuary is just like Torchwood!”
-Please, Sam is so Jack Harkness. She stands on rooftops to think/strike a pose, is older than she appears (but is still the prettiest, despite a clearly dated fashion sense), is the odd one out accent-wise, and spends a lot of time acting mysterious and superior!
-Guns are a necessary part of work attire.
-Opening scene: crime scene, night, rain, police, people killed gruesomely, clever observer realizes something’s afoot — sound familiar?
-There’s a secret base that deals with weird creatures kept away from the public.
-Even futuristic technology can’t explain why the team persists in thinking their base is, in fact, secret, when everyone on the street knows about it.
